Jersey patch sponsors in the NBA, WNBA, MLB, MLS and college sports
A jersey patch sponsor is a brand that pays a team to wear its logo on the team’s game jersey or uniform. NBA jersey sponsors, WNBA and MLS jersey sponsors, MLB uniform patches and, since August 2026, college patches are all sold this way, team by team.
This guide from SponsorFlo’s Deal Tracker lists notable jersey patch sponsors in each league with the team’s or league’s own announcement, explains when each league allowed patches, and shows the newest jersey deals as they’re announced.

When did leagues start selling jersey patches?
Each league set its own start date for sponsor patches, and the newest is college sports. Here is when each one allowed them, with the announcement.
- MLS: MLS was the first major US league to allow a sponsor on the front of the jersey, starting with the 2007 season, when Herbalife signed with the LA Galaxy; a second sponsor on the right sleeve followed from 2020. (Herbalife, Mar 23, 2007)
- WNBA: The Phoenix Mercury signed the WNBA’s first marquee jersey sponsorship, with LifeLock, in 2009. (Phoenix Mercury, May 19, 2021)
- NBA: The NBA Board of Governors approved jersey sponsorships on April 15, 2016, starting with the 2017-18 season as a three-year pilot, with a patch on the front left of the jersey. (NBA, Apr 15, 2016)
- MLB: MLB announced its jersey patch program on April 1, 2022, and patches first appeared in the 2023 season under the new collective bargaining agreement. (MLB.com, Feb 2, 2023)
- College: The NCAA Division I Cabinet approved commercial patches on January 23, 2026, effective August 1, 2026: up to two logos on uniforms and apparel, each at most 4 square inches. (NCAA, Jan 23, 2026)
